Where to do the tutoring

  • Home Tutors

Being a privat home tutor can be very rewarding as generally it’s a ‘one on one’ situation and that is beneficial for both the tutor and the student. All the time can be devoted to improving and nurturing the person who wants to do better. It can be challenging as there are some of the students who simply don’t want to be taught anything, and make it as difficult as possible for the teacher. Unfortunately they are the one whose parents have gone ahead without really discussing ways in which the youngster may improve the yearly exam results. It could be laziness, boredom with the subject, or more serious personal issues to do with home life or a whole host of other problems. That’s when the home tuition practitioner has to step back and let those problems be dealt with by the school or an expert in child psychology. It is beyond the remit of the tutor, but parents will sometimes believe the home teacher can do wonders.

There is a choice of whether the tutor has students come to the home, or they go out to the parents house to do the tuition. Most would prefer to have the students come to them but parents can feel uncomfortable about having a child, even a teenager, go to someone else’s house alone. Home tutors have to be vetted the same as any teacher or someone working with children, but none the less, it’s as well to have some personal recommendations when considering home tuition.

    Teaching overseas

For the overseas traveller there are lots of opportunities to teach students in English and this is invariably done at the parents property. Those that can afford to have personal home tuition for their children can usually afford a big house and all the trimmings, so going and using a study is no problem. Teachers who want to do this kind of work need to get the minimum of a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certificate, and this will be regarded highly by schools and parents when applying for work. The fact that a teacher is working in a low cost economy and for good fees means there is the potential for a much better lifestyle than in the home country. This is getting more and more popular within the teaching community and even those who never considered this as a career are enjoying the benefits of working in a tropical country, close to superb beaches and in an amazing culture.

    Time to move on

So the home tuition expert does not have to necessarily have to spend their time slogging it out with the laziest of students at the college every day of the week. They may then come back to spend three hours with a less than bright student whose parents are sure their offspring is intellectually brilliant. The type of subject for home tuition is really down to the standard subjects which appear in the educational curriculum. The tougher subjects are the one parents believe can be improved and those tend to be maths, English, physics and history. Subjects in the other areas of work would include Geography, English Literature and chemistry (which is tricky to do at home), but these are less popular.
